Staking Engineer
Work Location: Roundup, MT
Pay range: $75,000 - $120,000

Fergus Electric Cooperative is seeking a full-time Staking Engineer to join our member-oriented team in Roundup, Montana. We continue to see strong member growth throughout the Roundup area and are looking for the right individual to join our team. Position requires sound engineering judgement, technical knowledge, positive attitude and good communication skills to be able to constructively work with members, line crews and supervisors in providing safe and reliable electric utility service.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s (B.S.) degree in electrical engineering or related engineering field is preferred.
- Experience in electrical utility system design, construction and maintenance is highly desirable.
- A minimum of five years of equivalent work experience may be substituted for formal education.

Requirements:
- Ability to assist members with rights of way and advise them on matters pertaining to new electrical service.
- Strong computer, writing and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to plan project schedules with deadlines and ability to apply critical thinking.
- Must have the ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities require close/distance and color vision.
- This position is active and requires the ability to be able to walk, climb steep terrain, bend, stoop and kneel.

Right of Way Groundman
Work Location: Lewistown, MT
Pay range: $25.66 per hour (per CBA)

Fergus Electric Cooperative is seeking a full-time Right of Way Groundman to join our member-oriented team in Lewistown, Montana. We are expanding our existing vegetation management operations and are looking for the right individual to join our team. Position requires trimming trees, clearing brush, testing wood poles, and working around and near energized and de-energized power lines and equipment.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Prior tree trimming experience preferred.
- Experience with handheld electronic devices preferred.

Requirements:
- Must be able to operate bucket trucks, woodchipper, chain saws, resistograph pole testers, computers and other applicable tools and equipment.
- Able to use a 25 lb. chain saw for extended time and maneuver tree limbs weighing up to 100 lbs.
- Must have the ability to stand in a tree while working, often in awkward positions.
- Feed tree branches, etc., into a chipping machine.
- Must be able to obtain a First Aid and CPR certificate and become proficient at treetop rescue.
- Accept duty calls, as needed, day or night, seven days per week.
- Effective verbal communications skills; legible handwriting; good member service skills.
- This position is represented by a union and requires joining IBEW 44
- Expectation to complete our apprenticeship program and arborist certification in the future
